...Amazing. I don't know what else to say.

We're not in this alone.

I just dropped off a good pile of classic Revelation Records hardcore and a few other odds and ends down on Marigny Street. Here's the lowdown, bidip bo!:

GORILLA BISCUITS - Start Today lp + s/t 7"
Everything you need by one of the best bands to ever come out of New York. Hardcore kids love them, skinheads love them, pop punks love them--even rudies like SKANKIN PICKLE love them. Better watch out, better take care, you're headed for the dragon's lair.

YOUTH OF TODAY - all three lps.
Break Down the Walls, Can't Close My Eyes, and We're Not in This Alone. Not my personal favorite, but no one can deny the keen fashion sense of Ray "of Today" Cappo who would later go on to form SHELTER and BETTER THAN A THOUSAND. Put on your white high tops, bleach that flat top, and let's take care of business.

CHAIN OF STRENGTH - The One Thing That Still Holds True lp
Probably one of the best records on Revelation along with the INSIDE OUT 7". One of the best straightedge bands ever? I think so.

JUDGE - discography dlp
More militant straightedge hardcore, this time shorter and more straightforward, almost punk. Classic stuff. Members of YOUTH OF TODAY, PROJECT X, GORILLA BISCUITS, SIDE BY SIDE, etc.

MOUTHPIECE - Can't Kill What's Inside lp
The discography from one of the last youth crew bands.

V/A - New York Hardcore: The Way It Is compilation lp
Classic NYHC comp from 1987/1988 with YOUTH OF TODAY, SICK OF IT ALL, NAUSEA, WARZONE, GORILLA BISCUITS, BOLD, and more.

SHAI HULUD - That Within Blood III-Tempered lp
Heavy, hardcore from Florida for people who still remember the late nineties.

HIMSA - Ground Breaking Ceremony lp
More "metalcore" back before the term was bastardized by a bunch of jock neanderthal death metal turds. This time from Seattle and, or course, more political.

ICEBURN / ENGINE KID split lp
Come see what Greg Anderson and Steve O'Malley had to do to get all of those straightedge tattoos. Sunn O))) fans will cringe.

RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE - People of the Sun 10"
You know I had to grab these. Political, heavy loud rock / hip hop crossover before that became such a terrible idea.

INK & DAGGER - Experiments 7"
Vampire hardcore punk stuff from Philadelphia. Ex-FRAIL and one dude who would go on to co-create the TIM AND ERIC AWESOME SHOW.

KISS IT GOODBYE - Choke 7" + Preacher 7"
Heavy, chaotic hardcore from ex-members of DEADGUY before folks went on to start PLAYING ENEMIES. Great stuff for anyone into the early HYDRAHEAD RECORDS catalog.

SINCE BY MAN - We Sing the Body Electric lp
Milwaukee screamo for people who like SEVEN DAYS OF SAMSARA, WAIFLE, FUNERAL DINER, etc.

IRON LUNG - Sexless // No Sex lp
The band that can rekindle the spirit of power violence. Heavy, fast, slow. Whatever, man. For fans of SPAZZ, CHARLES BRONSON, ENDLESS BLOCKAGE, IRON AGE, etc.

BARONESS - Red Album dlp
Newest release from this Savannah, Georgia metal stoner dudes.

BLACK TUSK - Passage Through Purgatory lp
More Savannah, Georgia heaviness. D-beat crust metal stuff. Ex-members of HAMMURD SHIT (pre-A HANGING).

ALCEST - Souvenirs d'un autre monde lp
Post-rock, shoe gaze, almost 90s throwback stuff from Neige (PEST NOIRE). For fans of JESU, MY BLOODY VALENTINE, etc.

GET RAD - Say Fuck No To Rules, Man lp
Youth crew-ish, straight ahead hardcore from folks in SEVEN DAYS OF SAMSARA and PROTESTANT.

And a couple of classics:

REVERSAL OF MAN - Revolution Summer 10"
Long out of print 10" from one of the best "screamo" / emo violence bands ever. This one includes their EARTH CRISIS hating hit "Get the Kid With the Sideburns."

V/A - 403 Chaos: Florida Fucking Hardcore compilation cd
Probably my favorite compilation ever. At the time of its release, unreleased songs from ASSUCK, CAVITY, COMBATWOUNDEDVETERAN, REVERSAL OF MAN, HOT WATER MUSIC, DISCOUNT, OMEGA MAN, 1912, etc. Pretty much all the best bands from Florida in 1997.

And I also grabbed some copies of the BURNING FIGHT book:

"While Steven Blush's American Hardcore was an excellent examination of the pioneers of the hardcore punk movement, after reading his book one gets the impression that hardcore died in 1986. Although that particular era of hardcore may have ended in 1986, an influx of new bands took the genre to new places, which is where Burning Fight: The Nineties Hardcore Revolution in Ethics, Politics, Spirit, and Sound picks up.

Nineties hardcore sparked profound change and debate across musical, social, spiritual, and political landscapes. Many of the ideals that were ingrained in hardcore since its beginning were taken in new and often controversial directions. Inspired by the music and the community that developed around the scene, many immersed in hardcore’s ethical and social movements such as straight edge, animal rights, D.I.Y., spirituality, and a host of other issues debated these beliefs and implemented them into their own lives, eventually taking what they learned outside the hardcore scene and influencing the broader culture. At the same time, many of the ideologies that united people ended up dividing them in the long run, which eventually led to the splintering this era of hardcore by the decade's end.

Burning Fight draws upon the memories of many who played influential roles in the scene and understand what made this era of hardcore so unique in its ability to synthesize music and ideology into what for many felt like was a powerful counter-cultural movement, where change was just around the corner.

The book features several sections with input from over 150 musicians, zine-makers, D.I.Y. practitioners, activists, and hooligans from this era. As well as several band oral histories including 108, Unbroken, Los Crudos, Inside Out, Burn, Shelter, Endpoint, Groundwork, Integrity, Swing Kids, Vegan Reich, Avail, Spitboy, Deadguy, Texas is the Reason, Split Lip, Ressurection, Damnation A.D., Rorschach, Coalesce and many others."

--

I'm moving a small stack of indie rock stuff uptown to the Hey! Cafe site sometime this week (ANCIENT HEAD, SCREAMING FEMALES, etc.), so look for an update on that.

And as soon as I collect another payout, I'll be making that No Idea order to grab those re-releases of the old LIFETIME and JAWBREAKER records.

New records downtown and uptown!

I just dropped off tons of new records on Marigny Street:

KOWLOON WALLED CITY - Gambling on the Richter Scale lp
The 10"s I grabbed are already gone, and I think we're down to one copy of this LP. Great stoner metal stuff from San Francisco that even a person like me who hates that s can love. I'm trying to get these guys to come down in the fall. Get with it.

SALOME lp
Super heavy, female / demon fronted doom from Virginia. Kat also sings in AGORAPHOBIC NOSEBLEED these days. Grab this awesome record and get ready for the BR show they're doing on March 20th!

POLLUTION Nasty DNA lps + 120608 tapes
Harsh hardcore from New York with folks from UNEARTHLY TRANCE. A modern version of Black Flag / Born Against / Rorschach?

TOMBS lp + TOMBS / PLANKS split lp
Killer black metal influence hardcore from New York with ex-ANODYNE. The split with PLANKS has a tight silk screened cover. And PLANKS rules--HIS HERO IS GONE style hardcore from Germany.

ASRA lp
Brutal grindcore for fans of NAPALM DEATH, MAN IS THE BASTARD, DISCORDANCE AXIS, etc.

DEAD FRIENDS lp
Florida hardcore for people still craving that old 90s emo sound--Palatka, End of the Century Party, etc.

MEHKAGO NT lp
Old school grindcore with a crusty / d-beat thing happening as well. Supposedly members of TORCHE and SHITSTORM. Is that true?

ANCIENT HEAD lp
Weirdo, psychedelic, indie rock stuff with ex-members of MAJORITY RULE, DARKEST HOUR, CITY OF CATERPILLAR, VERSE EN COMA, etc. Pat from GHASTLY CITY SLEEP is in this band.

CITY OF SHIPS / SOUVENIER'S YOUNG AMERICA split lp
Epic, heavy stuff for folks into ISIS, EARTH, CULT OF LUNA, GRAILs.

LITANY FOR THE WHALE - Dolores lp
Pageninetynine throwback type stuff from Santa Rosa.

NUX VOMICA / THE MAKAI split 10"
Crust punk / metal from Portland plus Swedish thrash / metal from Chico. Gel up that hair and grab your spikes and studs.

ROT IN HELL / THE PROCESS split 7"
Sick, "holy terror" hardcore from the UK. ROT IN HELL was one of the only bands we liked from the UK. Great dudes, sick music. They're doing stuff with DEATHWISH now, and I should have their LP on A389 shortly.

AUSTRASIAN GOAT 7"
French black metal on NOXIOUS NOIZE RECORDS. I grabbed a few more of these from Christion. Now go to town.

Plus, a literal FUCK TON of used stuff, including some amazing out of print stuff like...

- that old FOOD NOT BOMBS comp (the one with Anomie, Palatka, Holocron, etc.)
- TEM EYOS KI lp and 7"
- PALATKA - The End of Irony lp
- DETESTATION lp
- RACEBANNON - In the Grips of the Light lp
- BLEED - Bully Complex lp

I also dropped off a small pile of new stuff down at the Hey! Cafe over the weekend...

GOOD LUCK - Into Lake Griffy lp
Just back in print. Matty Pop Chart (Mt. Gigantic), Ginger (One Reason), and Mike (K-10 Prospect) doing amazing, poppy, emo stuff.

I HATE MYSELF - 10 Songs lp
Speaking of emo--here's the definitive emo band, and their best record.

ABE FROMAN lp
Last few copies of this bad boy. Killer, sloppy, political pop punk from Matty Pop Chart and Erin Tobey and friends.

AMERICAN CHEESBURGER / RELIGIOUS AS FUCK - split lp
I grabbed a few more copies of this amazing hardcore record, so all you uptown hermits could check it out as well. Cheeseburger's playing here in a couple of weeks. Religious as Fuck is brutal, straight forward hardcore (for fans of Left for Dead, Asshole Parade, Negative Approach, and so on).

THIS IS MY FIST - A History of Rats lp + split 7" with FIFTH HOUR HERO
One of the best pop punk records out there and their newest split 7". Female fronted, Bay Area awesomeness. Even Andy Gibbs likes this band.

THIS BIKE IS A PIPE BOMB - all the big ones!
Dance Party with... 10", Front Seat Solidarity lp, Three Way Tie for Fifth lp, and the newest Convertible lp. Finally restocked these bad boys.

I also dropped off copies of the NUX VOMICA / THE MAKAI split 10", the SALOME lp, and a few cheap used records from GAMEFACE and THEY WILL KNOW US BY THE TRAIL OF DEAD.

And I moved the last couple of copies of THE SCREAMING FEMALES Power Move lp uptown. And I brought by some overstock copies of the black metal zine OAKENTHRONE.

I'll be back at the uptown spot Saturday night to restock all the Thou stuff that's gone. And I'll be hitting the downtown store that night as well for the same and also to work in a big ol' mess of REVELATION RECORDS hc stuff--all the classics--CHAIN OF STRENGTH, GORILLA BISCUITS, JUDGE, YOUTH OF TODAY, etc. I also grabbed a few copies of the BURNING FIGHT book which I'll drop in both stores.

Next up is probably another small NO IDEA order to grab the represses of the LIFETIME and JAWBREAKER records and maybe a couple of other odds and ends (the new CURSED 7", the OMEGAS 7", maybe that GET RAD lp). After that, I need to buckle down and do a big EBULLITION order, restock a few things, and grab some newer hardcore and power violence stuff.

I hope that sounds good to you.
