New Orleans print-punk powerhouse Garrett County Press is also the (re-)publisher of the hotcakes-like-selling A TERRIBLE THUNDER.
I recommend TERRIBLE THUNDER very highly. Deeper and richer than mere "true crime," it provides a gripping blow-by-blow account of the tragedy of errors surrounding the 1972 Howard Johnson's sniper, but also uses the specific events and people involved as a lens through which to explore the street-level racial politics of New Orleans relative to the rest of the USA.
These books and the "Showdown at Desire" zine, documenting the Black Panthers' battles with New Orleans law enforcement, are among the panoply of awesome reading matter that can be had at THE IRON RAIL... New Orleans rulez, get hip!!
